How they are made
Each sign is CNC-carved from pine or poplar milled by an Amish sawyer a short drive from our shop, then hand-finished and stained. The letters are cut into the wood rather than printed on it, so the design has depth you can run a thumb over and nothing on the surface that can chip or peel.

We carve these in Bardstown, which is the middle of bourbon country, and it shows in the range — there are more whiskey lines here than beer ones, and the tavern designs read like the signs hanging in the places we drink in.
Where a bar sign works
Behind the bottles is the obvious spot and usually the wrong one, because the sign disappears behind glass. Above the bar, on the wall the stools face, or on the door into the room reads far better.
Carved wood also suits a bar in a way printed metal does not — a basement bar is already wood and warm light, and a cut sign sits into that rather than on top of it.
