The Apology, Pre-Engraved
Every group has one story that gets retold at every gathering, and it always starts with a bottle that was supposed to last the whole weekend. Somebody said the thing. Nobody has let it go since. This glass gets ahead of the next one. Sorry comes first and biggest, in tall script across the bowl. Under it, in small spaced capitals, the qualifier that quietly undoes the apology — FOR WHAT I SAID WHEN — and then the punchline returns to full height in two heavy lines: THE BOTTLE / WAS EMPTY. A small etched heart sits in the middle of the stack, exactly where the sincerity is supposed to go.
It is a joke that lands on the first read and still holds up on the tenth, which is more than most funny wine glass sayings manage. The lettering is laser-etched into the glass, cut below the surface as permanent frost. Printed novelty glasses go pale after a few dishwasher cycles and start peeling at the letters; this one stays legible long after everybody has forgotten what was actually said.
