How to figure plywood sheets
Multiply the area's width by its length for square feet, divide by the sheet's coverage (a standard 4×8 sheet covers 32 square feet), then round up — you can't buy 7.3 sheets. The waste allowance is what separates a real estimate from a second trip to the yard: even simple layouts lose material to cuts, factory edges, and the odd miscut, so 10–15% is the honest default and complex angled layouts deserve 20%. Direction matters too: if your project needs grain running a particular way, or seams landing on framing, you may need more sheets than pure area math suggests — the calculator gets you the floor, your cut layout sets the ceiling.
